Charles James: Beyond Fashion is an extraordinary book about the designs and influence of Charles James. He was a British born but New York based designer who, in the 1940s and 1950s, revolutionized and influenced fashion for decades. He's especially known for his sumptuous ball gowns. This book chronicles his life, work and influence from 1932-1956, and is filled with photos, sketches and notes.
The book was written by Harold Koda and Jan Glier Reeder, with 264 pages and 315 illustrations, 273 in color. It has a selected bibliography. It is hardbound with a dust jacket, looks never read. The Metropolitan Museum of Art published this book to accompany an exhibit honoring Charles James. It was printed in Italy.
